

His studio is pretty cool, kind of like a bat cave for German film composers. It attracted us, the idea of working with such a great composer creatively, from scratch. From our perspective, that was very appealing because we’ve never done a score before. He said he admired our music and all that sort of thing. John Lopez: How did these tracks for Pirates of the Carribean happen? Gabriela Quintero: Well, he invited us, so we came to Remote Control in Santa Monica where he always composes to his studio. We caught up with the musical buddies-highlights: We’re proud to share a track of theirs-“Angry and Dead Again”-which will undoubtedly rock even more set to shots of Johnny Depp and Penelope Cruz swashbuckling. The resulting collaboriation spruces up Zimmer’s usual cymbal-clanging score with the same joyful, vibrant energy that makes their concerts like a Mexico City block party. When Hans Zimmer invited the pair to collaborate with him on the soundtrack for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, they eagerly cinephile musicians eagerly accepted.
